Reșița has a rich history and a diverse culture, largely due to its role as an important industrial center that attracted people from various regions of the country. The city has a diverse ethnic community, with Hungarian, German, Serbian, and Romanian populations living together in harmony.
One of the most important tourist attractions in Reșița is the Steam Locomotive Museum, founded in 1972, which represents a true treasure of the city’s industrial heritage.
The Steam Locomotive Museum in Reșița is located in the Triaj area of the city and hosts a collection of 16 locomotives from different periods, 14 of which were built in Reșița and two in other locations. All these exhibits are displayed in an open-air park, offering free access to visitors who wish to understand how these machines worked and how they contributed to the development of industry and society. The most important piece is the locomotive “Resicza,” which welcomes visitors at the entrance of the park.
The era of steam locomotive construction ended in 1964, when diesel locomotives began to be built, followed later by electric locomotives.
The Steam Locomotive Museum in Reșița is a popular tourist destination both for history enthusiasts and for those interested in technology and engineering.
