Nera Gorges

To reach Nera Gorges, you can use one of the following access routes:

  • From the west: from the villages of the Oravița Depression (DJ 571), via Sasca Română or Sasca Montană
  • From the east: from DN 6 (E70), via Bozovici or Anina
  • From the north: from DN 58B (Oravița - Anina), via Ciclova Română or Ilidia

If you are traveling by train or bus, the nearest station is in Oravița. If you are traveling by plane, the nearest airport is in Timișoara.

  • Beușnița Waterfall, a spectacular waterfall formed by the deposition of travertine on a rocky slope

Beușnița Waterfall is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Romania. It is located in the Nera Gorges–Beușnița National Park (Anina Mountains) in Caraș-Severin County. The waterfall actually consists of a series of cascades on the Beu River upstream from Ochiul Beiului Lake. The largest of them exceeds five meters in height and is the most impressive. These formations were created over millennia by the action of water on limestone. Here you can admire a unique natural phenomenon, a true natural monument of great touristic, geological, and scenic value.

Ochiul Beiului Lake is a natural turquoise lake that does not freeze in winter and is fed by an underground spring. The lake has a circular shape and a maximum depth of 3.6 meters. It is located about 200 meters from Beușnița Waterfall and is part of the same national park. Here you can enjoy rare beauty and complete tranquility.

Bigăr Waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world. It is located at the confluence of the Miniș River and the Bigăr River and is part of the Nera Gorges–Beușnița Natural Reserve. Here you can witness a unique natural spectacle.

Ponicova Cave is a cave accessible only by boat or by swimming along the Nera River. The cave has a total length of 1,200 meters and two entrances: one at water level and another at 12 meters altitude. It shelters numerous species of bats and other underground creatures. Here you can explore a hidden and mysterious world.

Dracului Lake is a natural lake formed through a process similar to that of Beușnița Waterfall. The lake has an emerald-green color and a maximum depth of 15 meters. It is located approximately two kilometers from Bigăr Waterfall and is part of the same natural reserve. Here you can admire the contrast between the lake’s ominous name and its unreal beauty.
