We arrived by train at the Cozia Hm station, from where we began the hiking trail on foot, with our backpacks properly equipped with everything we needed (water, food, a raincoat, and a first aid kit). We breathed in the fresh air deeply, and the sound of birds filled us with positive energy. We felt ready to face any challenge.

Cozia National Park, located in the central-southern part of the Southern Carpathians, is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved national parks in the country. Covering an area of approximately 17,100 hectares in Vâlcea County, it shelters an impressive variety of mountain landscapes, ancient forests, crystal-clear streams, and rich biodiversity.

Within Cozia National Park, it is important to be aware of the potential risk of encountering vipers. These reptiles are native to mountainous areas and can hide in vegetation or among rocks, making them difficult to detect. To avoid unwanted encounters, it is essential to pay attention to trail markings and avoid dense vegetation or rocky areas that may provide shelter for vipers. Especially during the warm season, when they are more active, it is important to hike cautiously and avoid getting too close to areas where they might be present.

Properly equipped, we set off on the trail to Cozia Peak, one of the most popular destinations in the park. The duration of the hike is estimated between 4 and 6 hours, depending on pace and the number of breaks taken along the way.

I tried to be well prepared, so I carefully researched the route beforehand. We chose one of the more challenging trails, with an estimated duration of about 5 hours to reach the summit. During the journey, we passed through diverse terrain, from dense forests and steep switchbacks to flatter areas with panoramic views along the valley. Each step brought us closer to our goal.

Cozia National Park is known for its biodiversity, with numerous species of plants, animals, and birds. Along the trail, we had the chance to observe various examples of local flora and fauna, including rare and protected species.

Near Stănișoara Monastery, we took a short break. Here, we enjoyed a refreshing snack and the peace and beauty of the surroundings. The spectacular landscapes made the journey up to that point truly worthwhile.

When we reached the section with chains, we felt a bit nervous, but with courage and confidence in our abilities, we managed to safely advance through the steeper areas. The trail markings, in the form of a blue stripe, guided us throughout the entire route and ensured we stayed on the right path.

As we climbed higher, the scenery became increasingly breathtaking. Cozia Mountain is an imposing limestone massif, and its peak offers a stunning panoramic view over the entire region. On clear days, you can see the Făgăraș Mountains and the Parâng Mountains.

The climb was challenging, but once we reached Cozia Peak, we forgot all the effort. The spectacular view from above rewarded us completely. Cozia Chalet could be seen in the distance, and we felt that everything had been worth it. We spent some time at the summit, enjoying every moment and recharging our spirits with the energy of the mountains.

The descent was just as interesting and challenging. I must admit we were a bit rushed, as thunder signaled the approaching rain. Because of this, we lost some of the joy of admiring the landscapes on the way down, but we managed to stay enthusiastic and follow the trail markings carefully to avoid getting lost.

The advice I would give to those who want to explore Cozia National Park is to be well prepared and to have proper hiking equipment. Know your limits and choose a trail suitable for your level of experience. It is important not to underestimate the difficulty of the journey and to consider weather conditions. Resources such as maps and local guides can be extremely helpful in planning the route and better understanding the area.

Cozia National Park and Cozia Peak were an unforgettable experience for me and my friends. We learned that nature offers incredible beauty and valuable lessons, and that the connection with the mountains is truly special. So, I encourage anyone to embark on this adventure and explore the magic of nature in Cozia National Park. Have a great trip and unforgettable adventures!
